Crowned and Authentic | The Cool of the Day
For Mykesha Wolfe, creativity didn't begin with a business plan. It began beside the water.
During a season of homelessness and personal hardship, Mykesha found herself returning to Lake Mayer in Savannah. She would bring her Bible and art supplies, sit at a picnic table, and spend time painting, praying, crying, and talking with God. One of the works that came from that season was "Beside the Still Waters". Originally, she intended to paint Lake Mayer. But, like much of her creative process, the painting became something she hadn't planned.
Looking back, Mykesha describes that season through Psalm 23. What she was living through felt like a process of being stripped of an old identity and discovering who she was in Christ. It was there that the idea behind "Crowned and Authentic" began to take shape.
Creating From the Pain
Crowned and Authentic has been a passion of Mykesha's for about five years, but the journey from idea to business has been gradual. For years, she experimented, learned, and went through what she describes as a process of trial and error. In 2024, she joined a business accelerator and spent about a year intentionally learning the business side of her creativity—how to network, build a brand, understand profitability, and determine how her gifts could become something sustainable. At the same time, she had lost touch with creating. Then something clicked.
"I can create off of the pain."
She began painting again and realized that the artwork didn't have to stop with the canvas. Using Procreate, she could transform elements of her paintings into digital designs and place them on apparel. The business came later. The art came first. For Mykesha, the purpose behind Crowned and Authentic is bigger than clothing. Each piece is meant to remind women of who they are, even when their current circumstances don't reflect it.
Her message is:
"Wear your story. Walk in your purpose. Be brave, bold, and beautiful while being all that God has called you to be."
She wants a woman wearing Crowned and Authentic to look in the mirror and see someone brave and bold looking back at her—even in a difficult season. The circumstances may change. The identity doesn't.
Art as Healing
Long before Mykesha thought of herself as an artist in business, creating gave her somewhere to go. Making art became a form of healing and peace—a way to step outside of everything happening around her and enter a space where she could simply create. Her paintings aren't carefully mapped out beforehand. She follows what she sees and feels. Colors come to her, and she goes with them. There was even a time when she didn't consider herself a particularly good artist. It took stepping back, really looking at her work, and hearing other people repeatedly affirm her creativity for her to recognize it herself.
Eventually, her response became simple:
"Well, let me just do it."
In 2026, after years of developing Crowned and Authentic behind the scenes, Mykesha began taking the business into the community through vendor opportunities. For her, those years before publicly launching weren't wasted time. They were part of the process.
The Cool of the Day
A second part of Mykesha's creative story began after she moved into a new apartment. There was a room in the apartment that she began transforming into a prayer room. In that quiet space, she found herself reflecting on the season she had just come through. She began to understand the moments when she had been alone with God—the praying, talking, crying, creating, and simply being—as "the cool of the day." Mykesha has always considered herself a talker, so on July 12, 2025, she decided to record herself speaking into a voice note.
She called it "The Cool of the Day".
The name initially came from those peaceful early mornings when everything was quiet. At the time, she didn't realize the phrase also appeared in Scripture. Later, while recording a podcast episode with Simon Steel, a financial investor and pastor, he pointed her toward Genesis and the biblical reference to "the cool of the day." Once she discovered the connection, the name carried even more meaning. What began as simply talking in the quiet of the morning grew into a podcast centered on Christ and real life.
One Story, Different Expressions
Crowned and Authentic and The Cool of the Day may take different forms—one through visual art and apparel, the other through conversation—but for Mykesha, they belong to the same story. She brings them together this way:
"Enter into the garden during the cool of the day, where we talk about Christ and real life, where we wear our story and we walk in our purpose. We know that we are crowned and authentic, where we are brave, bold, and beautiful, and be all that God has called us to be."
And when she talks about wearing your story, she doesn't mean apparel alone. She wants the message to be something women carry internally—something written on the heart. Because underneath the paintings, clothing, podcast episodes, and business is the same invitation: to recognize who you are and walk in it. When asked to sum up everything she creates and stands for in one word, Mykesha didn't hesitate:
"Authenticity."
"Be authentic. Be authentic in walking in your purpose."
For Mykesha Wolfe, that authenticity wasn't discovered all at once. It emerged through pain, stillness, faith, creativity, and a willingness to keep moving through the process. And now, the things that helped her find her way back to herself are becoming the things she uses to remind other women of who they are, too.
